On the occasion of the centenary of Giacomo Puccini’s death

The Company Artemis Danza, with this new creation by Monica Casadei, dedicates its artistic project to four fascinating female protagonists of the composer Giacomo Puccini whose centenary since his death falls: Tosca, Madama Butterfly, Mimì and Turandot.

The understanding of Puccini’s music passes through the analysis of his profound relationship with the female world. A clear message right from the titles chosen for his most famous works. A kaleidoscope of different personalities, a universe full of facets, sensibilities.

In the four scenes that make up Puccini’s Opera, we find Casadei’s personal interpretation of the female theme placed at the centre of a process of choreographic, visual and musical reinterpretation. Tragic love, thwarted and opposed love, the cruel love that annihilates, the lust for possession that leads to destruction, live on in the faces, bodies and gestures of the Company and do not cease to make us reflect on the topicality of stories that have moved audiences all over the world.

The creation is permeated with a poignant atmosphere, full of tension and poetic suggestion. Puccini’s orchestral score is contrasted with electronic tracks by composers Luca Vianini and Fabio Fiandrini that draw an enveloping and at times apocalyptic sound space.

A choral dance full of impulses and passions, instinctive and at times wild, which makes whirling use of space and appears, even symbolically, as visually full: solos protected by frames of ensembles in a dynamic accelerated by propulsive forces make the drama and passions of the protagonists live in the body and in the guts.
